This is so rich that it should only be consumed on special holidays, like Christmas.
This will serve 12 people or more.
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 lb. stale croissants (or similar)
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/2 cup raisons
1/2 cup melted butter
Whiskey sauce (recipe below)
Preheat oven to 350. Blend eggs, salt, and sugar with wire whisk. Add vanilla and milk. Blend.
Break croissants into medium size pieces and spread out in 13 x 9 pan. Add almonds, raisons, and melted butter. Pour egg mixture over bread. Place pan inside larger pan and fill larger pan with boiling water so it comes up the sides of the smaller pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Test with a knife or spoon for doneness. Serve with warm Whiskey Sauce.
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 cup melted butter
1 ounce whiskey
Whip sugar into melted butter. Fold in eggs; add whiskey. Warm the sauce gently in the oven before serving.
